IAD Report for July 20, 2006
- meeting updates
-- debrief potential host contacts
-- Prague
- Host MOU
The IAD reported on the planning for future IETF meetings. The planning for the
Spring 2007 meeting in Prague is proceeding, and the IAD expects to have a MOU
signed with the Host as soon as it passes the Host's legal review.
The IAD report that there have been a number of indications of interest by
potential hosts for various meetings after the Spring of 2006. This interest
has apparently been facilitated by the recent posting of the future meeting
calendar with the region intended for each meeting.
The IAOC has received complaints about people who attend IETF Working Group
meetings without registering, and discussed this situation without coming to a
resolution at present.
IAOC Old Business
- NSS contract review
-- follow up (year end projections, budgeting)
The IAD reported on the updated budget forecasts for the remainder of from
NeuStar Secretariat Services. He expects a preliminary 2007 budget by the end
of July.
- IANA SLA
The IAD reported on the IANA SLA, a new draft of this document should be
available by the end of the week.
- Exec Director
-- updates to existing documents
Brian Carpenter reported that a review of the relevant RFCs had found that all
references to the duties of the IETF Executive Director were of such a nature
that they could be assigned to the Secretariat.
Committee Reports
- RFC Editor RFP
-- comments on draft RFP (RFC_Editor_RFP_Draft_04.pdf)
Comments are still being sought on the draft RFC Editor RFP. There was
discussion concerning who in the IETF besides the IESG should have the
authority to request expedited processing from the RFC Editor. There was
consensus that this would eventually have to be dealt with in a Standards
document, but that this could be done after the RFP was released.
- Meeting Planning
The IAD reported on the Multi-Event contract currently being negotiated with a
large multi-national hotel chain.
The IAOC discussed the implications of a proposed donation of equipment to the
IETF. Issues include who would store and ship and handle customs duties if the
donation was accepted.
- Tools Team
-- submission tool
The IAD reported on a meeting of the Tools Advisory group on the preceding
Friday. They are expecting to have a draft contract with the Secretariat for
software support for the IETF Tools ready for signature by the end of July or
the first week of August.
IAOC New Business
- Future Plenaries/Community Reporting
The IAOC discussed a suggestion to revive the old Monday Plenary during IETF
meetings, and the general topic of how much detail should be presented at
Plenary concerning IAOC activities.
The IAOC discussed signage at the IETF meetings and agreed that there should be
more signage directing participants to the various auxiliary rooms, such as the
Terminal room.
