IAD Report for August 17, 2006
- meeting updates
-- hotel contract update
- Host MOU
The IAD reported that at present there were 98 registrations and 15 requests
for letters of invitation for IETF-67. The MOU with a potential Host is still
undergoing the Host's internal legal and management review. A draft Hotel
contract for IETF-69 has been received and is under review.
The multi-year contract with a large multinational hotel chain has been
reviewed by the ISOC Counsel, and the IAD reported that he expected to have a
final version of this contract ready for signature within a week.
The IAD reported on plans for a preliminary visit to the leading candidate site
for IETF-70, and also on possible alternative site for this meeting, if needed.
IAOC Old Business
- IANA SLA Update
The IAD reported on a teleconference with IANA representatives in the previous
week. They reported that the IANA review of the SLA should be completed by the
end of the month.
Committee Reports
- RFC Editor RFP
-- review board (IAD proposal)
-- update on responses
The IAD reported on the responses received on the RFC Editor RFP. He plans to
post these responses on the IAOC web site within the week.
The IAD has proposed that there be a community review board set up to evaluate
the responses received from the RFP. This matter was discussed by the IAOC
without coming to a conclusion, except that there was consensus that the full
IAOC expects to be involved in the RFP review.
- Meeting Planning
-- Equipment Donation (Chair/Noc team update)
A corporate member of ISOC has proposed a donation of networking equipment in
support of future IETF meetings. The IAOC Chair reported that, after review,
the consensus of the IETF meeting NOC volunteer team was that some of the
proposed equipment would definitely be useful. The IAOC discussed the various
implications of accepting this donation, in whole or in part, including the
costs of shipping, storing and insuring any donated material. After this
review, the IAD recommended that the material recommended by the NOC volunteer
team be accepted.
The consensus of the IAOC was that, as the equipment would be donated to and
owned by ISOC, and would be in lieu of a financial contribution to ISOC, this
is fundamentally an ISOC decision. Lynn St. Amour then said that ISOC would
take responsibility for negotiating this donation, and requested a list of
needed material from the NOC team.
- Evaluation
-- IAD goals
At the IAOC retreat, it was agreed that the yearly goals for the IAD would be
aligned with the yearly calendar. The 2006 goals has now been received from the
IAD in accordance with that decision, and will be reviewed by the Evaluation
committee during its meeting next week.
- Tools Team
-- ID submission tool contract update
The IAOC discussed the NeuStar Secretariat Services proposal for support of
IETF tools software.
-- SPAM filtering
The IAOC discussed improved filtering of unsolicited commercial email ("SPAM")
from IETF mailing lists. The IAOCs consensus is that this is covered by the
IASA contract with NeuStar Secretariat Services and requested that the IAD
pursue obtaining this improvement.
House Keeping
- tele-conferencing option
The IAOC discussed various software packages that could be used for IAOC or
other IETF teleconferences with integrated data collaboration, instant
messaging and VOIP support.
